A kiss to the muse as I pass this way
Hold my hand
I feel like dying
Stepping on a lifeless cloud
Shimmy towards a ceaseless end
Enough of this carousel
Ringing around and around
Borrow a sultans kiss
Purchase a gift
Seethe the lifeless
Curtsey at an awkward premise
Once upon a time
sing song
Its really hard to do
Wash away that fears
Cast away that which makes those tears
Wash away
Cast away
Sometimes
Shadows have feelings
Bitten in two
Let blood caress
Silken lips
Walk with me
While I die
Slip in your wake
Bask in a life that was
Washed in gold
Dreamt in a sleep
Would you believe
If I told you
We don't live forever
Memories do

"Sometimes
Shadows have feelings
Bitten in two" Nice image!
Your carousel seems to be the meaningless repetitions of life, the blood seems to be from feelings. Well captured, as it reminds me of a friend who is depressed. Your narrator consider the positive cycles and repetitions (like seasons) before taking the hand of the muse to "Shimmy towards a ceaseless end" and becoming a mere memory.
BTW, the tune from "We're captured on a carousel of Time" (a Joni Mitchell song about growing up)started playing in my head as I read and reread this gem of a poem.
I noted the same lines as Susan;
Sometimes
Shadows have feelings
Bitten in two
That says so much to me about the way creative thinking works.. our notion of shadows, feelings and things to be bitten in half..
The whole poem is superb, as the lines and ideas spin out towards the end.
Enjoyed this!!
I see Susan and Kerry quoted my favorite lines ~
Memories live forever, I like it ~
I love every bit of this! When I was younger, I thought I was invincible! I wouldn't have believed if you said we don't live forever! When find out the truth...it's a crushing blow and we recede into the darkest recesses..the shadows...
shadows have feelings and memories do last forever....
Very beautifully written!
Sometimes it does feel as if we are sleepwalking.
You have expressed so lyrically what it feels like to live with depression.
Shadows have feelings is a stunning line description of isolation and anomie so many experience.
So beautifully written!
very nice man...you catch the feel of the cycle in your words...or the carousel...round and round...and while they dont end, we do...def catch the feel of depression as well....some really nice lines too
"Walk with me/while I die..."
Man, Adrian, way to break my heart, and poetically, too. This is wrenching but very good poetry. You don't flinch. Your "shimmy toward a ceaseless end" is quite like your style, I think. Would love to meet you someday. So much we share from our two viewpoints...
Peace to you, Adrian.
Amy (and something to cheer you)
